Home while away

From clothing and books to gifts from friends, receiving packages by post is a pleasure. However, it can be frustrating if the courier takes the eagerly awaited package away again because there’s nobody at home to answer the doorbell.

Now the problem is solved, even if you’re on the move in the car. Together with the Berlin-based start-up DoorBird and the gate and door manufacturer Hörmann, Volkswagen presented the world-exclusive possibility of connectivity with a video entry phone at home via your in-vehicle infotainment system at the IFA Consumer Electronics Unlimited trade fair in Berlin.

The driver can see the visitor or courier ringing the doorbell on the infotainment system display and speak with him or her, making it possible to open the door or garage gate, without having to pick up a smartphone.
All Volkswagen vehicles are compatible with App-Connect technology, which enables smartphone apps to be displayed on the touchscreen of the infotainment system. App-Connect including MirrorLink™ Android Auto™ by Google and Apple CarPlay™ has been optionally available in the majority of Volkswagen models since May 2015.
